Almost all colleges accept either the SAT or the ACT for admissions. Some schools will state a preference (SAT is most popular in California) and you should always check with the admissions office for their specific requirements. In the past, the SAT was considered more of an aptitude test and the ACT was considered more of an achievement test.

Since March 2005, high school students taking the SAT have been encountering a brand-new Writing section and more advanced Math questions.
The SAT is divided into 3 sections and is structured as follows:
  • Critical Reading Section
  • Math Section
  • Writing Section

The PSAT is a preliminary version of the SAT. The PSAT contains the majority of the question types found on the SAT and tests the most of the knowledge that the SAT evaluates.
The PSAT is divided into 3 sections and is structured as follows:
  • Critical Reading sections
  • Math sections
  • Writing section
