Many colleges and universities required it (be sure to check with your schools admission department). A composite score between 1 and 36 is given based on the average of 4 sections. Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes; but with the added 30 minute writing test, total testing time is 3 hours, 30 minutes.

Almost all colleges accept either the SAT or the ACT for admissions. Some schools will state a preference (ACT is most popular in Midwest, IL, IN…) and you should always check with the admissions office for their specific requirements. In the past, the SAT was considered more of an aptitude test and the ACT was considered more of an achievement test.
